Franky Fox Academy is an educational computer game created for Windows computers. It has sort of a “classic video game” format – in that Franky Fox has to try to gather certain answer choices while avoiding the hazards – and is used to review and reinforce a variety of subjects.
The game screen looks like this (with a little bit of variation, depending on what level the player is currently on):
The topics that download with the game include books of the Bible, math, geography, and U.S. Presidents. Other topics are available for download, as well. Perhaps the best feature of the game, though, is that you can create your own topics!
I have a daughter who thrives on fun and hates anything remotely “boring.” This makes it really hard for me to get her drill anything often enough to be useful. She loves Franky Fox Academy! Because I can add topics at will, we can use it to review not only basic things like math facts, but also unit-specific concepts. During a study of animals, for instance, we could review predators vs. prey. In a study of an anatomical system, the student could be asked to identify which vocabulary words relate to that system. By choosing that answer order is important, passage of Scripture could even be reviewed! (You would enter phrases of the passage, and the student would have to select them in order.) There really is very little limit to what this can do.
Disclosure: We received a free license for the game to facilitate this review. As always, all opinions are entirely my own (and those of my family).
