You know the saying: “If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!”  Give a gift to the whole family this year by making sure that Mama gets restful sleep every night!

Millions of Americans sleep poorly at night as a result of unsupportive mattresses.  We all know that sleep is essential to keeping us cheerful!  It also has an amazingly significant impact on one’s overall health.  When we sleep on good mattresses, we get better rest, have less back pain, and are healthier in general.

Good Mattresses

I was blessed to work with Amerisleep a few years ago, so we have the Liberty mattress in our room now, and we love it!  It’s plenty firm – you can put a bowl on it and not have it tip – but it’s not hard.  It has definitely been better for our backs.  Because the foam Amerisleep uses is much more natural than most memory foams, I feel better about having my face so close to it every night. 

(This is especially reassuring for a mama who often has a little baby in her bed!  I don’t want my little guy having his face pressed against off-gassing all the time.  This one not only isn’t full of the yucky stuff; it’s firm enough that I don’t worry about him “squishing” down in it.)

Although these are not 100% free of petroleum, they are primarily plant-derived, with no formaldehyde, pthalates, etc.  And although no good mattress is cheap, the prices for these are comparatively very affordable.  (I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to spend an extra few thousand on something for a few % difference in “naturalness.”  In my opinion they’re a great choice for any member of the family.  Except the baby, and that’s only because their mattresses don’t come in crib size.

Still, maybe you’re not in the market for a mattress right now, or you need a gift for someone outside the household.  In that case, you could still consider picking up a smaller item like a pillow or a mattress cover.  We love the mattress protectors these guys sell!  They, too, are free of the typical types of plastic, while still being good and waterproof.  And no crinkling!  (The kids appreciate this “feature”!)  Definitely a whole different level of quality from the covers you buy at the department store.
