KleenSlate has some of the niftiest white boards I’ve ever seen! Reminiscent of the old-fashioned (one-room schoolhouse-type) slates, these are slates with handles so they can be used for student responses in similar fashion. These have so many features, though, that I just love.
The handles, in my opinion, actually make these a littleharder to hold. Maybe that’s just because I have small hands – but so do most students. It would be easier for me to hold the slate upside-down, I think. However, the handle does serve other purposes. It contains a spot to clip the marker, keeping everything self-contained. And you can even clip on a microfiber cloth for rubbing the board clean.
The slates are two-sided – they have writing surfaces on both sides. And you can get several different board designs to put on either side. Of course there’s a plain, solid, blank whiteboard option! But there are other choices, too – graph “paper,” large handwriting lines, musical staff lines, Venn diagrams. These are adhesive sheets! That makes them easy to change out. It also makes them environmentally-friendly, because if your board wears out, you can simply replace the writing surface, rather than the whole slate.
They erased well for me, even when I left writing on them for several days to see if I could get it to “harden on.”
The markers have caps with erasers built in. Replacement eraser caps are available, as well. I really love that all of the individual parts and pieces are so easy to replace! That can keep these going for many, many years.
We will be using ours for doing our Grapevine Studies (I demonstrate it on the whiteboard; they copy it into their notebooks), among other things, so the larger rectangular size is good. If you want something a little smaller, though, take a look at the round paddles. (They look a little like Ping-Pong paddles!)
If we need more dry erase boards, I will definitely be getting more of these!
Disclosure: KleenSlate provided me with a pair of slates and a set of markers to facilitate this review. As always, all opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
