As I look back over the past year, I am reminded of “small” blessings. One such blessing, for me, was getting a bread board this year. I had really wanted one, because I make all of our bread, so I like to leave the cutting board out on the counter by the bread basket. The problem with leaving regular cutting boards out like this, though, is that every time I cut the bread, it spreads crumbs everywhere, and it’s tricky to clean them up (especially off of my counters; I have weird counters with these ledges at the front that make it impossible to wipe food all the way to the edges).
A bread board has a slotted board set into a tray, so that the crumbs fall into the tray and can easily be dumped. I had wanted one for a while, but they’re kind of pricey. Well, I was excited to discover that the points I had been accumulating from one of the companies I take surveys for could be traded in for the exact one I’d been looking at! So it was shipped directly to my door without any cost, even for shipping. 🙂 It’s a little thing, but it’s made my daily work much easier.
Hi Rachel, this is the first time I’ve come across your blog…cool story…I couldn’t help but think of Matthew 6:11 as I read this 🙂
That sounds like a wonderful gadget! esp when it was free! Do you save those bread crumbs? They keep well in the freezer!
Yes, we save the bread crumbs. 🙂 I also let the ends dry out (we aren’t crazy about them here) and smash them up or blend them for bread crumbs. They’re not only frugal, but healthy. 🙂
