“What the heck is a moem?” you say. I wondered the same thing! A moem is “a tribute poem written and posted on social channels, preferably rhyming, in 135 characters or less.” (I assume it’s for “mobile poem,” since it’s mobile-friendly, being short enough for microblog sites like Twitter. Or maybe it’s for Micro Ode Poem?? Regardless, it’s a tribute poem short enough for Twitter!)
It’s great to honor Mom just for the sake of honoring Mom! But it gets even better. For every #Moem posted in honor of moms by midnight on Mother’s Day, MetLife will donate $10 to Dress for Success‘s $50,000 goal. Dress for Success is an organization that helps low-income women achieve economic independence for themselves and their families through supporting their search for professional employment. It’s hard to get a job if you don’t have the right clothes. And, honestly, it’s a lot easier to feel better about yourself when you look good. (It might sound vain, but it’s true. We don’t feel very valuable when we look sloppy. It’s amazing how much difference clothes can make to one’s attitude!)
I’ll be honest, the first rhyme that popped into my head was, “Thanks, Mom. You’re the bomb.” But I’m not 14, so that wasn’t cutting it. If your attempts are coming out something like that, you might check out MetLife’s #Moem Maker. Here’s what I ultimately decided to go with:

(My mama doesn’t have a Twitter account, or I would have tagged her in this. She’ll have to wait and see it on Facebook.)
Head over and check it out, and write a #moem for your Mom, too! You’ll bless your mom and bless someone else’s mom.
