Today my middle daughter is six. A couple years ago we instituted a “policy” (tradition?) of alternating years with the girls – one year Ariel gets a birthday party and Sophia has a date with Daddy; the following year Ariel has a date with Daddy and Sophia has a party. (We still have cake and ice cream for both of them, with the family. We just only do a party with friends for one of them.)
They have mostly the same friends, and birthdays just a couple of months apart, so this helps save Mama’s sanity (and pocketbook!) and keeps their friends from having to work both into the schedule. (Livia and Caleb will get worked into this rotation eventually, too, but right now neither one cares about having a birthday party. They’re too little.)
What does that have to do with Mike and Sully? Well, this year it’s Sophia’s turn to have a date with Daddy, and she wants to go to the movies. Trouble is, there’s nothing good playing this week (for a six-year-old) – not around here, anyway. In a couple of weeks, though, Monsters University will be out.
We loved Monsters, Inc., so we’re looking forward to Monsters University, which opens on June 21st. In case you haven’t yet seen a preview, you can view one below. And then you can download an activity sheet to create your own “student ID” for a monster of your making (or maybe for yourself?)
