Most little girls love ballet – but how many of them know the stories of the famous ballets? The Prima Princessa videos introduce these stories to young viewers in a non-overwhelming manner.
Excerpts from the actual ballet are shown. Between excerpts, the story is further explained. Viewers are also taught a few ballet steps, themselves!
In this video, watch along with the young girls and boys on the DVD as we meet Clara and her treasured Christmas gift – the nutcracker. During the break, learn to sauté. (Sauté means “to jump.” This is why you “sauté” your food – the food “jumps” in the hot pan. So the youngsters are dancing, even though it might sound as though they’d be cooking!)
It did seem to me that parts of the story were omitted. Reference was made (toward the end) to the Mouse King, but I don’t recall having seen him make an appearance. Perhaps I just wasn’t paying close enough attention.
The primary audience is children aged 3-6, but I’m sure that those slightly older would appreciate it, as well.
I thought this was a good introduction to the story behind the ballet.
Just in time for Christmas season viewing, one of you will win your own copy of the DVD. Enter via the Rafflecopter below.
Disclosure: I was provided with a copy of the DVD to facilitate the review, as well as a second copy to give away. All opinions are entirely my own.
My favorite ballet is the Nutcracker. We were able to take our girls to see it last Christmas season and we had a wonderful time. My youngest daughter would love this. Thanks!
It may not be original, but my favorite ballet is the Nutcracker. I have such fond family memories of going as a little girl and am excited to continue the tradition with my own children!
