Pumpkin Pie Spice for the (Essential Oil) Diffuser

This time of year we see pumpkin & pumpkin pie spice everything, it seems! With that being the “flavor of the season,” I decided to put together a “Pumpkin Pie Spice” essential oil blend for the diffuser.

Add the following to your diffuser:

3 drops cinnamon EO
2 drops nutmeg EO
1 drop ginger EO
1 drop clove EO

Then run the diffuser. It’s as simple as that!

Prefer a Pumpkin Spice Room Spray?

If you prefer a room spray (or just don’t have a diffuser), you can make a blend of the same proportions, and add it to alcohol (the kind people drink — like vodka — not rubbing alcohol) and distilled or filtered water in a spritzer bottle. Use half a tablespoon of alcohol, then add enough water to make 1 ounce. Shake well before spraying, and be careful not to get it in your eyes right after you spray it in the room!

The primary purpose of the spray is aesthetic. In other words, it is primarily intended to smell good! There are, however, antibacterial, antiviral, and antiseptic properties in it, particularly, in the cinnamon and clove oils, so it can be a good germ-fighting boost to your environment as colder weather sets in. The nutmeg and ginger don’t contribute much to this end, but they round out the blend and make the aroma more autumnal than wintry.

Ingredients

3 drops cinnamon Cinnamomum zeylanicum; C. cassia EO
2 drops nutmeg Myristica fragrans EO
1 drops ginger Zingiber officinale EO
1 drops clove Syzygium aromaticum EO
Optional for Room Spray
1/2 Tbsp. vodka
filtered water to make 1 oz.

Instructions

To use in the diffuser:
Add the essential oils to your diffuser and use as instructed.
To use as a room spray:
Add the essential oils and vodka to a 1-ounce spritzer bottle.
Top off with water, replace the lid, and shake well.

Notes

For Apple Pie Spice, replace the ginger & clove with 1 drop allspice EO.

Apple Spice Diffuser Blend

Maybe apple pie spice is more your think than pumpkin pie spice. They’re pretty similar — just omit the ginger and clove in the blend above and use a drop of allspice essential oil in their place.
