UPDATE 18 Feb 2025: Godly Children doesn’t seem to be available except via ClickBank (or possibly not at all anymore), and ClickBank has a bad habit of shutting down accounts that don’t get enough click-throughs, and making users keep creating all-new accounts from scratch, so I can no longer link you to that product. But I’ve updated this post with links to the author’s site and similar/related content.
Godly Children: Raising Godly Sons and Daughters in an Ungodly World (which includes the content previously published as Create a Keepsake Notebook) was written by a homeschool mom who, together with her husband, was convicted of the need to intentionally teach their children godly manhood and godly womanhood. The system they ultimately employed revolves around keepsake notebooks.
Each daughter receives a notebook, intended to collect the information about biblical womanhood that she is studying and wants to remember, have access to for refreshing her memory, etc. (Boys receive similar notebooks, with biblical manhood information.) As mom and dad assign reading, they provide study guides for each book. The study guides serve as memory refreshers for the books’ content, and are added to the notebooks. Other things, such as poems, quotes, articles, etc., may be added to the notebooks, as well.
I think this is a wonderful idea! (In fact, I have information of my own that, even as a grown woman, I probably should compile into a similar format for my own reference!) The ebook provides fairly detailed information about how the Vosses set up their studies and compiled their notebooks. It includes sample study guides, covers you can use, and some suggested resources.
I would have liked to see a complete list of books, articles, and tapes that the Vosses have required for their daughters, and for their sons. Still, the ones that are provided are a good start. (And, of course, what you ultimately choose will vary by family.)
The spiritual development of our sons and daughters into men and women is far more important than their physical development, and yet we often short-change this area of their lives. Let’s turn the tide and raise up a generation of men and women who will change the world for God!
Disclosure: The author provided me with a copy of the ebook above, to facilitate this review. As always, all opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
