Remember When…
Disney has been a cultural icon for generations. As a result, I’m sure most of us have memories that involve Disney music! Sometimes they’re just fun for comparing notes.
For instance, my hubby and I are about 10 years apart in age. This is the source of many amusing observations in our household. Like our thoughts about when The Little Mermaid first came out. My third grade Sunday School class went to see it in the theater, and I clearly remember being thoroughly freaked out when Ursula came looming out of the ocean in oversized form. On the theater screen, she was huge!
Meanwhile my (then-future) husband, who was in college and majoring in music, was learning to play the songs from the movie. (To this day, they are some of his favorites. He says the music in The Little Mermaid was especially well-done, and he still enjoys playing it.)
The Disney Music Box Set
Well, guess what? The Disney Music Box Set is just coming out, and with 94 recordings on four discs, it includes something for pretty much everyone.
“Under the Sea” is included in this set, on the Modern Classics disc, along with other notable pieces like “Be Our Guest” and “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” When you start getting into the other three discs, I have to confess there are a few where the kids and I were going, “That was Disney?!”
Timeless Classics include “Whistle While You Work”, “Once Upon a Dream”, and “Cruella De Vil”, among others. Theme Park Classics include, of course, the evergreen “It’s a Small World”. (That has to be the stickiest song ever written! I don’t think it’s possible to ride that ride without finding yourself singing the song for weeks afterward!) It also includes others like “The Bear Serenade” from Country Bear Jamboree and “One Little Spark” from Journey Into Imagination.
Television Classics is probably the most intriguing to me and the one I could most do without, depending on the portion of the disc. It includes songs from such current/recent Disney shows as Hanna Montana, Kim Possible, and The Cheetah Girls. Sorry, but I’m just not a fan of this new genre of Disney TV. However, this disc also includes some really fun classic television tunes like the “Mickey Mouse March” (from the Mickey Mouse Club), “The Ballad of Davy Crockett” (That was Disney?! Who knew?!), and “Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers Theme Song.” (I loved Chip and Dale!)
This is, perhaps, a totally insignificant observation, but isn’t that a great design, too? I love the look of the set.
Where Can I Get It?
This is such a fun way to take a musical walk down the proverbial Memory Lane! (And it crosses generations, so this would make a great family gift for the holidays.)
Starting today, you can pre-order the Disney Classics Box Set at Amazon for $49.98. (Or you can purchase it at Disney Parks. But I’m guessing none of you are reading this blog post from a Disney Park. Still, if you’re local to one, that might be a good option for getting your hands on a copy in a hurry.)
The set will be available “everywhere” (you know – all the normal places you can buy music) on its official release date, November 12th.
Win It!
Just in case it wasn’t obvious from the fact that I have a set of CD’s that aren’t even available yet, this is a sponsored post. I received my own set of CD’s and compensation to let you know about it this week. Regardless, all opinions are entirely my own – I really do think this is a cool cultural collection and would make a great family Christmas gift.

Thanks for the chance to win this CD set! I know my kids (and I!) would love it!
