If, like us, you discovered Emmy Rossum as a result of her role in Phantom of the Opera, you may already know that this girl can sing! But if you’ve discovered her through some of her newer acting roles, that might be news to you. Well, let me tell you – she most definitely can sing!
Sentimental Journey: The Album
If you haven’t heard her yet, you have a great opportunity coming up. She has a new album debuting on January 29th. Sentimental Journey is a collection of covers of classic American songs. I’m a bit biased, because I’m something of a sucker for this type of music, but I got to take a sneak “peek” (a sneak listen?) at this album, and I love it!
The timing of the release is great for Valentine’s Day (I think this sort of classy music is perfect for romantic occasions), so you might consider adding the album to your Valentine’s date plans.
What I did not immediately realize is that the 12-song collection includes a song for each month of the year. Some are obvious fits, while others are less literal selections, based on Emmy’s own personal perceptions of the various times of year. For instance, Emmy says that she “chose Nobody Knows You (When You’re Down and Out) for September because, to me, the plaintive melody and lyric emotionally reflect the cold weather creeping in and the sense of melancholy we can get in the fall months.”

“(I’ll Be With You) In Apple Blossom Time” is a perfect song for my locale! Every year, we have an Apple Blossom Festival. It’s a bigger deal than the County Fair, and apparently people come from all over the world to experience it. I wasn’t familiar with this song before, though, so it was a fun thing to be introduced to.
