A year or two ago, we got a Staedtler Textsurfer classic highlighter as part of a color-coordinated set of pens from JetPens. (These are fun collections!) That highlighter went to my daughter, but I loved it so much I had to buy a full set of the highlighters for myself when my other highlighters wore out.

The Textsurfer Classic highlighters come in a couple different package sizes. The smaller package is only the more classic “highlighter” colors. I like this larger package, in part, because it contains the turquoise one I liked so much. A larger package is just nice, overall, though, because it allows for more flexibility in color-coding.
There’s only so much to say about highlighters, I guess. For the most part, they either do the job or they don’t. These seem to have a nice, rich ink; they aren’t “dry” like some, where you feel like you have to almost mash the tip into the page to get any color to lay down. That may make them too bold for some users’ preferences. (There are pastel sets available, too, if that’s your preference.)

They have a classic wedge tip, so you can make a wide line or a narrow one, or even use the narrow bit to write. And the shape of the barrels makes it really easy to know which direction to angle it — unlike with a traditional round barrel where you have to really look at the tip to see what angle you have the highlighter at.
One last thing I really love about these: they’re refillable. Perhaps not easily — highlighter refills aren’t readily procured at the drugstore or office supply store. But they are available, which means it isn’t necessary to throw these away repeatedly. I like that less waste is an option.
