What are Wearables? Wearables are playthings like you see above – cardboard constructs that allow children to “ride in” various imaginary conveyances. The pieces come pre-printed and pre-cut, and the kids can first color them. Ours is a bit…creative. As I have all girls, they were really hoping for the princess carriage, but the bulldozer was what was available for review. So Ariel and Sophia dubbed this the ” dozer carriage” – and didn’t really color it to look like a bulldozer. 😉
I was actually pretty surprised at just how much this captured my kids’ imaginations. They literally spent days coloring the pieces. (Not all day every day, of course. In between things like schooling and eating. But every opportunity they got, for 3-4 whole days.)
Then it was time to assemble it. I think we ended up with a few tabs sticking out that were meant to have been tucked in, but that’s because Ariel was able to assemble much of it herself. We were very thankful the instructions came with pictures, though! There were definitely steps we would never have figured out if it hadn’t been for the pictures.
In one spot, where the hood and windshield meet, we didn’t realize the assembly bent inward. That was our one stumbling block. All in all, though, with the pictures to follow, it went together pretty readily. After all the cardboard pieces are attached, you put on the included straps, and can wear the whole contraption by suspending it from your shoulders.
(They periodically had trouble with one of the straps coming loose.)
The girls then planned a special “tea party” (complete with invitations) so they could “officially introduce” the dozer carriage.
The only thing I’m not crazy about where this is concerned, is that it’s big. Although it can be disassembled and will then store pretty flat, there’s no quick and easy way to fold it and then put it back together. So instead, it’s taking up half of the floor space in my daughters’ room at the moment. (The toddler loves that she can throw things into the “hole” that’s the part you stand in. 😉 )
These are a really fun project and imaginative toy; I just recommend that you either instruct your kids to expect it to be temporary, or expect to take it apart and store it. They would also be really fun, unusual additions to costumes!
Recyclable – and made in the USA!
~$25-30 (depending on where you get it)
Disclosure: We received the bulldozers Wearable shown above, to facilitate this review. As always, all opinions expressed here are entirely my own (and those of my family).
