I’m so excited that the day after tomorrow my sister and I will be headed to Relevant! We actually were supposed to have already left, because we were (along with my mom, another sister, and my kids) going to be visiting my grandma “on the way.” Those plans fell through and that portion of the trip has had to be postponed, so, unfortunately, I can’t show you in-action pictures of what I had hoped to:
….traveling with kids!
One great toy for travel is B. Toys‘ H2-Whoa. This is a drawing board – similar to a chalkboard or magnet-based doodler – that uses just water. The reversible board is fabric-covered. Included “markers” are filled up with water and used to draw on the board. Words or images last a minute or two, then disappear as they dry.
My kids love this board, and it’s great for travel, as there is nothing to make a mess! No crayons to melt, or even colored pencils with leads that can break. If the markers were to leak for some reason (the kids opened them and left them on the seat, or something), it would still be just water – no real mess.
It doesn’t make noise, so it doesn’t annoy anybody. And it’s completely self-contained. There are slots in the plastic frame to hold the “markers,” so you don’t have to figure out where to store them. It is a little bulky for holding in a lap, but not too bad. (It could be covered with a napkin or cloth and used as a little table for other purposes, too – like dinner on the road! I’m not saying this is a recommended use, ’cause it’s not. But I’m all about realistic here!) The only other potential downside I see is that the board isn’t really washable. So if it gets grungy, I don’t know that there’s anything you can do about it. Still, I’m quite glad to have this for when we really do go on our trip!
Disclosure: I was provided by the manufacturer with an H2-Whoa drawing board free of charge to facilitate this review. I did not receive financial compensation, and, as always, all opinions are entirely my own.
