Many thanks to GoodWorks Mission for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100% my own.
When I had each of my babies, my mom made them what we call “blessing blankets” — quilts that have positive messages (blessings) written on them pulled from the text of Scripture. You Are a Child of God is kind of like the book version of those blankets.
You Are a Child of God
I’ve heard this book described as a “coloring book,” but that’s a little bit of a misnomer. Kind of. It’s a unique format, really — a book with some coloring elements.
The copy I have to work with for this review is a PDF, so this printout is a smaller size than the actual book is, but this will give you an idea of the general format:
The book is 8.5 inches square, and as you can see from this sample, it’s full color but with some black-and-white elements for coloring. That coloring element enables the book to be more interactive, facilitating the reader’s “sitting with” the words for a while.
The verses that inspired the statements are from both the Old and New Testaments, and the end of the book contains a list of the actual passages.
A couple of the statements are maybe not quite how I would have worded them, but that creates a good opportunity, if you’re reading these together with a child, to have a conversation about what the verses say more directly and how else you might paraphrase them.
Who is You Are a Child of God For?
The book was created based on a scrapbook that was originally made for a baby, so young children were the original intended audience. But it’s also an encouraging option for adults who want to sit and meditate for a little while on God’s love for them by coloring.
It would make a great baby gift or last-minute stocking stuffer. You can still buy it from Amazon in time for Christmas.

Fearfully and wonderfully made. Knit together in my mother’s womb…So often, I think we, as God’s children, forget we are here for a reason.
