Bleacher Creatures

Is there a young sports fan in your life?  Take a look at Bleacher Creatures.   Bleacher Creatures makes toys based on professional baseball, football, hockey, and basketball players.  These make for a fun change from the typical sports paraphernalia.

For each available player, there are several different toy options.  There are 7″ and 14″ plushies, there are wind-up toys, and there are puppets.  (Also, there are wind-up toys for some teams, that don’t feature a particular player.)

My kids got to check out the Aaron Rodgers hand puppet.  They noted, out of the box, that  “he’s supposed to have a beard!”  (I pointed out that probably the puppet was designed before the beard was grown.)  Apart from the lack of beard, though, my girls thought this was great!

(For those of you who don’t know, we are big Packers fans in this house, because my husband went to high school with one of their now-retired players.  My oldest daughter’s first word was  “touchdown,” spoken while watching a Packers game, and we got to sit and watch the Packers win this year’s SuperBowl with then-2-day-old Livia in our laps.)

The puppet is quite well-made.  It seems to be designed with children in mind, as the opening inside the head is a bit tight for my hands (and my hands are not especially large).  The user’s hand can be inserted in the head (to move the mouth) or the arms (to move the hands).  The girls had a blast with this, and it allowed them to use their imaginations, unlike many sports-related items.  (It also doesn’t just sit and take up space on the shelf, which is nice.)

These could be good, unexpected gifts for the young sports fans in your life.
