Crayola has recently introduced a new online application. Lights, Camera, Color allows children to upload their own photographs and convert them to one-of-a-kind coloring pages. If they choose to, they can even add certain words, backgrounds, and props to the coloring pages without printing. Here is an example of a before-and-after.

Most of the photos I tried didn’t work as well as this. (This is a Crayola example, not one of mine.) You really need a crisp, dark photograph with plenty of contrast between objects. The pictures of my children that I tried, for instance, were kind of muddled. A few came out well, though; it just takes a bit of trial and error. Here is one I did of my daughter’s teapot birthday cake:

(Those funny-looking things sticking into the corners are parts of the Lights, Camera, Color interface. They aren’t on the final, printed copy.)
Anyone can try out Lights, Camera, Color, but you need a code to be able to print the resulting pages. Codes are available inside packages of Crayola crayons, 48-count or larger. (The 48-count package codes are good for 3 months. Larger package codes are good for 6 months.) Crayola has offered me a special code, though, to share with my readers that will let you try out the program for a day. The code is PRT77F3S. You will need to register or log in at the site (www.crayola.com/colorme), then enter this code. It’s fun to play with, and a booklet comprised of these coloring pages could make a great Christmas gift for a young child. I’m thinking a coloring book of family members would be wonderful for a preschooler!
One product that contains a Lights, Camera, Color code is this really nifty telescoping crayon tower that Crayola sent me (through MyBlogSpark).

This is a pretty nifty thing. It holds 150 crayons (included). “Closed,” all of the crayons are down at the same level, so it’s easy to store. Pulled up and locked into place, it’s easy to access every color. There’s even a sharpener stored next to the handle! The crayons that come with it include some Glitter and Metallic colors, in addition to the old standards. (My daughter has been begging for this ever since I opened the package. I’m still deciding whether to give it to her or keep it for myself! lol Coloring is a good stress reliever, you know.)
Crayola/MyBlogSpark has/have offered to send a telescoping crayon tower to one of my readers, as well. Remember the package contains a 6-month code for Lights, Camera, Color, as well, so that’s a nice bonus. 🙂

Sienna — somehow the name just shouted possibilities. I remember how excited I was when I could get the ‘big box’ of Crayolas — the box that had sienna. Good memories.
Cerulean is my favorite color, I used to pronounce it “Sara-Lean” until I was 18 and learned the correct way to say it, haha!
