When I was a little girl, I loved lemon yogurt. It was my favorite, creamy and tart. Unfortunately, no one seems to make lemon yogurt anymore. There are “lemon meringue pie” and similar flavors, but they all seem to be the sugar-free diet varieties, full of sucralose (yuck) or aspartame (double yuck). So I was thrilled when I heard about NuNaturals’ newest stevia drops! They sent me some of their newest flavors, lemon, orange, and peppermint, along with some of their more “classic” products.*
I can make super-easy lemon yogurt in just a few seconds – just add 6-7 drops of lemon stevia liquid to about 1/2 cup of plain yogurt, and stir. That’s it. The only downside is that the lemon drops are so completely clear that it’s hard to see if you have it mixed up well. (I had a “pocket.”)
Vanilla is just as easy, using the vanilla stevia drops – I used 5 drops for 1/2 cup of plain yogurt. If you like it sweeter, you might want 1-2 more. I personally think that the storebought vanilla yogurt is usually too sweet, so I like this balance. (I actually found that 4 drops cut the tartness sufficiently for me, but the vanilla flavor wasn’t as pronounced as I would like, so 5 were better.)
*Disclosure: NuNaturals sent me these items, free of charge, in the hopes that I would like them, write about them, and/or create new recipes. I was, however, under no obligation, and all opinions expressed here are, as always, entirely my own.
My easy homemade lemon yogurt is probably not quite as healthy and is NOT sugarfree, but I love to make lemon curd — easy to make in a microwave — and a spoonfull of homemade lemon curd mixed into a couple of cups of my homemade yogurt makes wonderful lemon yogurt.
The company seems to have stopped making the lemon-flavored stevia drops, so I might have to try this!
