As a “Tommy Mommy,” I was provided with this book to facilitate my post. As always, all opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

My girls love Gigi. And, frankly, so do I. She’s fun and kind of silly – and very girly – much like Angelina Ballerina. But where Angelina Ballerina is whiny and selfish (and that’s definitely the part my kids picked up), Gigi’s stories always point my daughters back to God and His Word. (That’s not to say that Gigi is always perfect. If she were, there wouldn’t be much story! But she’s relatable, not ornery.)
So I was a little surprised, but not shocked, when my six-year-old asked for a Gigi devotional Bible for Christmas. Now, the Bible isn’t our favorite translation (we just prefer more scholarly translations, even for our little ones), but when your child asks you for a Bible for Christmas, you get the kid a Bible!* (Assuming, of course, that there isn’t any actual theological concern. Which there wasn’t/isn’t.)
She was surprised to get not only the Bible, but also God’s Little Princess Bedtime Devotional (thanks to Tommy Nelson and some inspired timing). The devotions in this are short and sweet, so she can read them to herself. And she’s enjoyed reading them to her little sister at night. Not every night – we’re not that consistent – but many nights. All on her own. That is, we didn’t suggest she read them to her sister; she was just so excited she wanted to share.
This, of course, is a benefit of having a Gigi-themed devotional in the first place. She’s excited about it, all on her own. This little girl (fictional, of course) is kind of like her, so she can relate to her. She has the same sorts of struggles. She falls into similar traps. And when Gigi learns godly lessons, they make sense and sink in for Sophia (and my other girls, too), without making her feel attacked (because they’re Gigi’s lessons, not hers – wink, wink).
I could tell you all about the 100+ devotions, the cute artwork, etc., but it would make more sense for you to just head over and check it out in the flipbook.

*Just to be completely clear, she actually had/has a Bible already. She’s had it since she could read. But it’s just the Bible – no notes or anything – and she liked the idea of the God’s Little Princess-style notes.
