No, we’re not moving again. Just still.
It seems as though this is a never-ending process. It was months before we figured out where and how to find a local moving company to get our piano from our storage unit and into the house. It’s been over a year now, and we still have boxes. Most of the boxes are unpacked (and a few that aren’t are waiting on something very specific — namely, finishing the kitchen cabinets), but there is still this pile of book boxes under and around the table in the office. (There are other boxes, but this is the largest yet-untackled collection.)
These are the boxes that are most in the way, and they are taking us longest to get to. The problem? They’re Michael’s books. Not just as in, “Michael owned these before we got married,” but as in, “These came from Michael’s office at the church, or Michael’s long-term storage, and I have no idea what to do with them.” And we’ve run out of places to put them! lol We have…eight full-size and three half-size bookcases in here (plus a couple more that hold things other than books) and a bookcase or two in Michael’s office, and we still have all of these books left to unpack! The downside to having a houseful of bibliophiles. 😉
Does one ever really finish moving in?
Does anyone ever finish moving in?
In my case at least, that’s a big fat NO. Phillip and I are working towards our seventh year of marriage and I still don’t feel like we’re “moved in” and he was living here in this house for a year and a half before we “tied the knot” and I added my belongings to the mix. I still have a box or two worth of books (mostly Theatre-related, set construction, costume design, etc.) that are boxed up in the attic that I never unpacked from the initial move.
And now I’ve got this seemingly epic task of getting my new art studio set up after having to pack up my old art studio to convert it to a nursery. Unpacking and getting it organized while managing the household and taking care of Laurel is crazy! I keep feeling like I’m finding more and more things that I didn’t realize that I had amidst my art supplies. I haven’t even begun to tackle bringing down all of my Art History and Reference books down from storage! Phillip, likewise, still has things boxed up in HIS office that he hasn’t touched in eight years. LOL.
The kitchen has never been organized quite to my satisfaction for efficiency purposes. Mostly because he had it organized the way HE wanted it back when he was still a bachelor living here on his own. And there always seem to be other things that I would love to tackle to truly feel “moved in” here. I added them to my list of “101 in 1001” so maybe I’ll finally get to that with the motivation to do so.
I imagine that some of this stuff won’t ever be unpacked… even when we eventually build and move into our next house. The idea of packing all of this stuff up to move some day terrifies me.
