Slugs & Bugs & Lullabies
by Andrew Peterson & Randall Goodgame
When I heard that there is an album coming out by these guys – Randall Goodgame and Andrew Peterson – who have written songs for VeggieTales, I was definitely intrigued. After listening to the album, I’m hooked. (Oh, yeah. My kids like it, too. 😉 )
Some of the songs are just plain silly. (“Bears”) Some are sweet. (“Beautiful Girl”) Many mix silliness with truth. Much like “a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down,” I think that the silliness helps open little ones’ minds to the important truths being taught (and helps them stick!).
The title comes from one of my two personal favorites, “God Made Me,” which you can hear below. It’s a perfect example of the silly-but-theological mix. (My other favorite is “Stop,” in case you were wondering.)
I was going to urge you to donate to their Kickstarter, but it appears they’ve already reached their goal. (Yay!) You can find these guys on Twitter and Facebook, or on their blog or website. (Or maybe on tour in a city near you?) And as it turns out, they have a Christmas album, too.
We LOVE this CD! These guys performed last year at my son’s preschool, and I bought the CD after the show. We enjoy all the songs, but particularly Bears, God Made Me, and our ultimate favorite: Tractor Tractor. Unfortunately, I accidently placed the CD on top of my car (while shuttling it from inside the house to the car one morning since we listened to it everywhere) and drove off. We tried to find it, but of course, it was lost forever. I’ve had trouble finding the CD in stock, but I see that it is now, so I’ll not only be ordering a new copy of Slugs and Bugs, but the new Christmas album too! Can’t wait to get them! Thanks for reminding me to replace this much loved favorite!
