My five-year-old loves to dress up. She especially likes to get all fancy, like a “princess.” While we do have a few specific dress-up items for this purpose – mostly accessories, like a tiara and satin gloves – much of her dress-up cart is filled with basic pieces which her imagination transforms, for a variety of uses. Most notably, we have several pieces of fabric. There is a piece of blue velveteen, which usually becomes a royal robe. There is a piece of silver sequined fabric, which also becomes a robe, at times, but is also used as an evening-style gown, etc. (These are also used for peek-a-boo with little sister. 🙂 ) There is also a piece of white mesh with silver stars, which becomes a sash or a wedding veil.
I would like to find some clip on earrings at the thrift store. These could, of course, be worn as earrings. They can also be clipped on to dress up shoes. But the main purpose I see for them in Ariel’s dress-up wardrobe is as a clip for her “royal robes.”
