“Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” So reads Psalm 119:11. One wonderful tool for hiding God’s Word in our hearts is music.
I had the blessing of reviewing this album from Generation Cedar, which sets whole passages of Scripture (primarily Psalms) to music. It is a beautiful album. (Even the cover is beautiful and soothing – look at that gorgeous scene!)
The musical style is probably best described as hymn-like. It is soothing acoustic music. The lyrics are taken from the King James Version of the Bible. (I think that some of them are not perfectly word-for-word, but very heavily inspired by their particular passages, while others are essentially word-for-word.)
Our family is extremely musical, so we can be very particular about musical quality. I can tell you that this is less-than-perfect, but very good. A good way to describe it might be that it sounds more like having musical friends singing in your living room, than a heavily-produced album with lots of editing done in post-production. My girls and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. (Hubby hasn’t heard it much, as he’s usually at work.) My favorite track is “Praise Ye Him.”
As a bonus, by purchasing this album, you will be helping a family to rebuild after the devastation of this summer’s storms. (Their home was lost in an Alabama tornado.) How’s that for two-for-one? – bless your family and someone else’s, all with one small purchase!
Disclosure: I was provided with the downloadable album, free of charge, to facilitate my review. All opinions in this post are purely my own.
