When Valentine’s Day rolls around, we typically think about husbands, wives, boyfriends, fiancées…but what about our children? We love them, too! We should, of course, be telling all of these people that we love them every day, but Valentine’s Day provides an opportunity to emphasize this once again, and the children should not be an exception. I Love You More… Than Chocolate is a great gift to show your love to your children.
A friend of mine has a “favorite quote” on Facebook that’s one of her kids’ comments: “Mommy mostly eats chocolate. But sometimes she eats something else.” Everyone knows that most of us mamas love chocolate! Our children definitely know! So they understand that “Mama loves me more than chocolate” is a big deal. 🙂 And it’s a tangible thing that even little ones can grasp.
This whole story is that way. Originally, the text was a song that the author sang to her own children as she tucked them into bed at night. The “I love you more than…” items are, of course, very specific to her. They’re general items, but maybe not things you love. In that case, the general idea will still come across — and hopefully it will inspire new, personalized “I love you more than”s for your own family.
The full-page illustrations are colorful and varied. A CD is even included, of the author singing the song. She’s not a “professional musician,” but she carries a tune nicely and the CD is pleasant to listen to. It’s a great way for children to learn the book’s text, and even to follow along when you aren’t available to read it aloud.
This is a sweet book, and we’re enjoying it.
Disclosure: The author provided me with a copy of the book to facilitate this review. As always, all opinions expressed here are my own.
How sweet! (No pun intended.) 🙂
