Really Woolly Bedtime Bible Promises is a bedtime devotional designed for ages 2-5. Livia (18 mos.) took ownership our copy immediately the moment she saw it. I think that means it’s pretty well targeted to the little ones!
It’s a board book, so it’s “safe” to read to a baby; they shouldn’t tear the pages while you hold them in your lap. And each 2-page spread consists of three parts: a Bible verse, a little 4-couplet poem describing the application of the promise to the child, and a single-couplet prayer. The verses are from the International Children’s Bible.
Honestly, we have not yet read the whole book to Livia, but she loves it. It’s just her size and she somehow seems to just know that it’s hers. When we do read it to her, I’ve been pretty impressed with the applicability of the lessons for young children. The poetic format should make it a good memorization tool, too.
Some of you may have seen the “Blessing Blankets” my mom made for each of my daughters when they were born. These are small quilts with Biblical promises (blessings) written on them. Really Woolly Bedtime Bible Promises would make a wonderful gift paired with a blanket like this, with the blanket designed to use the same promises.
The book calls itself a ” bedtime” devotional, so children can be encouraged to practice spending time with the Lord at bedtime. However, there is nothing that makes these bedtime-specific. You can use them at any time of day without it being “weird.”
Disclosure: We received the book above from Tommy Nelson at no charge, to facilitate this review. As always, all opinions expressed here are entirely my own (and those of my family).
Right now we just really talk about our blessings and we pray together every night. This would be perfect and we’d put it at the end of our bedtime storytime lineup! lol
